What is a typical day at the FAST Riding School? 1. Classroom: After registration, head instructor Michel Mercier starts with a 90 minute in-depth discussion on riding theory and skill development. Then you get suited up for the race track while the class is broken into 3 groups of approximately 10 riders, each group with it's own experienced instructor. 2. Track Time: you ride 7 track sessions, on average 9 to 12 minutes each. Each one is focussing on part of the techniques discussed earlier in class. You start by riding with the instructors to familarize yourself with the motorcycle and the race track. Each riding session has 3 parts: a briefing by head instructor Michel Mercier on what to practice and concentrate on, your ride on the track and then your group instructor's report so you can correct your mistakes on your next riding session. 3. Final Meeting: The day ends with a discussion, the distribution of laptimes, an award presentation for "top riders of the day" and graduation certificates, the credential needed to buy a road racing license and more. What does FAST Riding School provide? You don't need anything -- everything is supplied! Motorcycles: We supply you with your choice of state of the art latest technology from Yamaha and Suzuki. We give you the best possible tools to better your riding knowledge, the easiest possible way. Protection: We dress you up with top quality road racing gear, making sure you feel safe and protected like you never have before. This includes Arai helmets and Joe Rocket racing leathers, boots and gloves. What should I bring? That depends. You can bring your own motorcycle and riding gear, or use ours. Prices are affected accordingly. A t-shirt and a change of clothes are also good ideas. There is plenty of water to drink between riding sessions, but if it's a very hot day you might want to bring a sports drink such as Gatorade. What about photography? A professional photographer, Flair Photo will take digital pictures of all students while they're on the track. At the end of the day, you can have a look at your photos on Flair's computers and decide if you want to purchase a CD or prints. But if you want to take your own pictures, then you are welcome to bring a camera! Do you have a course for more mature, older riders? Yes, we have specific dates which cater to older, less aggressive riders. Last year, we had two riders over 70, and they each had one of the best days of their lives. Are women welcome? Yes, we can set aside groups for just women, or they can run with the regular program. All experience levels are catered to. The most common statements from the women: "I have improved more than I ever thought possible."... "I feel much safer now." Where do you run the school? We go to different locations. You ride on real race tracks in order to provide controlled and safe conditions in an environment that approximates highway style roadways.
Can I get involved in racing? Yes, after Phase 1 is completed, you will receive a special FAST graduation certificate that qualifies you for the purchase of a road racing licence needed to start road racing in the amateur ranks. What if it rains? We run rain or shine. Some of the best teaching and learning can be done in wet conditions. How much does it cost? With motorcycle and riding gear supplied: $499 for 1 day Any additional days, taken in the same year: $449.00 Can I use my own riding gear? You may use your own approved riding gear if you prefer, but this does not change the price. Can I use my own motorcycle? Yes, you can use your own motorcycle and approved riding gear if you prefer. The cost is $318.00 a day ($300.00 + GST), no insurance available. How do I reserve a spot? You can reserve a spot by telephone, fax or mail. We accept VISA, Mastercard or personal cheques. For students using FAST bikes, the minimum deposit required to hold a spot is $300.00 per day. The remainder is not due/will not be charged to your credit card until the day of your course. For students using their own bikes, a full payment of $318.00 per day is required to hold a spot ($300.00 + GST). How do I know which dates and bikes are available? Please see our Schedule Page to see what spaces are available. You can make two choices of dates and bikes on the registration form. You will receive your first choice of course date(s) and motorcycle(s), or we will contact you shortly at the telephone number you've provided with an alternate selection(s). When will I know my spot is reserved? Keep a copy of the registration form and you will notice the deposit amount appearing on your bank or credit card statement. We will mail your course information to you in March. Because there often is a long length of time between registration and actual course dates, we find this helps to act as a reminder. What about insurance? Yes, we offer insurance for FAST bikes at the rate of $99.00 per day. In case of a fall, the rider is liable for up to $2,000.00 damage on the motorcycle and/or the equipment. This optional daily insurance policy reduces the $2,000.00 deductible to $375.00 for Phase 1, and $475.00 for Phase 2 and 3. Can I reserve my spot at the bike show? Unfortunately, no. As much as we like the chance to say hi to our students and to answer questions from interested riders, this year we will not be at the bike shows. Also, if you are interested in a particular course date, please keep in mind that spots do full up quickly. After I reserve a spot, what happens if I cancel? Cancellation and refund is possible if you request it and we are informed a minimum of 3 weeks (21 days) prior to your course date. A $60.00 cancellation fee will be applied to all refunds. If you cannot attend your course but arrange for a friend to take your spot there is no cancellation fee. *Please add 6% GST only. Pre-registration is mandatory. We accept VISA and MASTERCARD. Advanced Cruiser/Touring Course information to be announced. Next: Bikes & Equipment |
