Riders and workers of the 2009 Max Mercier Safety Fundraiser Track Day

For my son Max and his friends, motorcyclists.

Hi

Some of you might have heard about a track day to be hold under the Max Mercier Safety Fund. We had a first one last year in August 2008 with about 20 riders generating $1500.00 profit for the fund and the second one just happened on Friday Aug 28th 2009 at Shannonville Motorsport Park on the Long Track configuration with a little over 80 riders participating and generating $10,111.95 profit this time.

The weather was great, the people were happy, it was a fabulous success.

The Max Mercier Safety Fund purpose is to raise money to use towards improving safety on racetrack, for us the motorcyclists and to keep a great friendship between all of us.

Friendship was so important for my son that it gave his friend Rahul Dua the idea to do something special to keep Maxime’s spirit and his friendship around for as long as it can. He started the "Max Mercier Safety Fund" with a free breakfast for the motorcycle racing community the year after Maxime passed away after a road racing accident in June 2005. It happened on the Sunday morning of the first road race of the year at Shannonville Motorsport Park. So far, we had 4 of those breakfasts; one on each year of 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. This year breakfast alone, 2009, raised $2,300.00, all donations from the racers, their team members and their fans. Generous riders concern about their safety on the track.

Last year, 2008, I had the idea of adding a Safety Fund Raiser Tack Day for the same purpose as the breakfast: friendship and race track safety improvement for the motorcyclists.

We had a few sponsors: Harley Davidson who paid for the track rental, CRCA Marshals, Quality Patient Transfer Ambulance and Flair Photo who supplied their work for free, free lunch and free track day advertising from Golo Racing on their website and FAST Riding School looking after registration and control. We got about 20 riders participating and raised close to $1500.00 profit that went into the safety fund.

This year, 2009, the 2nd Max Mercier Safety Fundraiser Track Day, got 90 riders participating and raised $10,111.95 profit increasing again the possibility of more safety for the motorcyclist race track riders. I could not believe the support that we got for that event, unbelievable.

We did not work at finding sponsors for the event, but accepted the donation of these sponsors, money and or free services: We got

CRCA Marshals
Quality Patient Transfer Ambulance Services
Flair Photo and Don Empey photography
Accelerated Technologies
Shannonville Motorsports Park
Canadian Motorcycle Association
Hot Lap Events and their Volunteer Team
Fast Racing School
JD Graphics
GoLo Racing Riders and Crew
Jana Water
Pat Gonsalves from Q107

This year success sure leads to work towards another track day like that for next year.

So far, we have used some money generated by the Max Mercier Safety Fund to purchase an Automated Cardiac Defibrillator/CPR assistance Unit I 2007 and shared the cost with Shannonville Motorsport Park in rearranging the run off area of the Pro Track corner #2 at Shannonville Motorsport Park.

To continue to benefit the motorcyclist racetrack riders, we sure want to do more every year and we would like to hear about ideas to improve the safety on racetrack, for us motorcyclists. If you have any ideas, please let us know about them by phoning 418-422-5500 or by faxing 418-422-5520.
.

I am very proud of that event and I wanted to let you know about it

Thank you for your time

Michel Mercier
